Van Werven, service provider in infra and recycling, had doubts about its Volvo A25 E dumpers; whether the bodies could handle the ruined loads dyke stones could cope in the long run. Geha Laverman came up with a very special solution
'Come along, drive them in and we'll fit the bucket bottoms with HARDOX 450!'
The special part of this solution certainly did not involve measuring, cutting, welding and assembling 10- and 15-mm-thick HARDOX plate; after all, that is daily work in Zaandam. But what made it extraordinary was that as many as two of these mega-tippers could be stored in the workshop at the same time - indeed, they effortlessly found a spacious place.
Customers get space
Coincidentally, the three-metre-wide trucks had been deployed on a job near Zaandam. This meant that, albeit with some caution, they were able to reach Geha Laverman while driving - normally you would need a substantial low-loader for that. In addition, another 1,700 m2 factory hall added, which remained completely empty pending its commissioning as a warehouse.
Obviously, fitting 1,500 kilos of body cladding could not be done with the pit stop timing we are used to from Formula 1. After all, customisation, especially of such proportions, takes time. But after a week, the twenty-four-tonners were off to the heavy work - without a penny of pain for now
