What happens when Europe's biggest crusher goes out of its mind - or rather threatens to?
It all happened in April this year. Even a crusher of mega proportions sometimes chokes, with dire consequences.
Fortunately, there was no sudden breakdown. This giga-breaker was fitted with a completely overhauled feed-conveyor as early as last year during a sophisticated operation by Geha Laverman
After meticulously measuring the crusher roof, construction of the new roof started in Zaandam. Made-to-measure in optima forma, from engineering to finishing. After completion, a new 40mm chain curtain was immediately fitted. To replace the damaged roof, the more than two football pitch-sized recycling plant had to be silenced. This included shutting down all configurations around the crusher, while the debris supply was not interrupted.
Stagnation soon leads to decline.
Homework
On 4 May 2021, the time had come. After the damaged roof was removed, the new crusher roof with a total weight of almost 9000 kilograms was quietly hoisted in around 11 o'clock.
The 30-centimetre-thick roof structure, measuring 3.5 metres long and over 2 metres wide, had to be manipulated to the millimetre to ensure a clearance-free fit.
Another exciting moment for Geha Laverman to see proven that all the 'homework' in Zaandam had been done properly. Roof off, roof on; all in all, the job was done in less than three hours.
