One million kilos of cast steel on-the-move

At the Alphen a/d Rijn site, a project was started to store all casting parts in an orderly and spacious way. And in Zaandam a complete warehouse was built on a raised floor for fasteners only. Operations that caused quite a stir...

You don't move 1,000 tonnes of steel every week and it had to be done. But thanks to the installation of new racking, all in-stock castings such as percussion rails, monoblocs, prall plates, cones, etc. have all the space they need and there is even room for more. Let's just call it the so-called Ikea effect, overview and accessibility prove time and again to be crucial for fast delivery. Paul de Grijs (Operations Director) does not hide his vision of the future let alone theorise: 'In fact, the warehouse project is not quite finished yet and the question is: will it ever reach that stage? The product range is still growing daily and you can always find opportunities and space in the warehouse to expand even further'.
